Title: Large deviations, fluctuation theorem and Onsager--Machlup theory in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics

Abstract: We discuss an extension of the Onsager--Machlup fluctuations theory which applies to spatially extended systems in steady states which are not necessarily close to equilibrium. The results are related to, and compared with, recent developments in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics.
