This booklet expands a set of lectures delivered by one of the authors (G.G.) at the Universit\'a di Roma in 1983 in the attempt of establishing a connection between the methods of Carleson and Fefferman for the theory of the almost everywhere convergence of Fourier series and the scale invariance ideas of renormalization group methods in Field Theory.
